When the leaves start to change their colors and fall from the trees it’s a signal things are moving toward winter. Time to trade in your sandals for shoes; time to bring out the hats and scarves (at least for those of us not lucky enough to live in the more temperate climates of the south). And it’s also the time to make sure you are well stocked with tissues; we tend to get more colds in the colder winter months than in the warmer ones. Why?

The cold virus, probably the typical RNA-rhinovirus, invaded my system last Thursday while I was seeing patients at the hospital, and by Saturday afternoon it was the full-blown, sniffling, red-eyed cold. I hadn’t had a cold for three or four years, so the feeling was new and especially annoying because I had some exciting days coming up. I didn’t want a meddling cold to slow me down. I especially didn’t want to give it to my family, as they would not be pleased. So I re-read chapter 6, in the You’re the Boss book, about the steps of using the mind to manage this cold. Here is how my reading helped me do this successfully.
